Yesterday, I found myself pretty angry and irritated, at this Justice of the Peace* who basically said “eff you” to Loving v. Virginia and refused to marry an interracial couple.
Beyond the misguided opinions of this “justice of the peace*” that interracial marriages are only comprised of black and white couples, the concept that he is doing this to protect the children angers me deeply.
I am a Chinese American woman married to a Caucasian American man. We have two beautiful children – Matthew, who is 3, and Lindsey, who is almost 10 months old. The only thing we have had to protect them from is the ignorance and hatred that people like that Justice of the Peace try to perpetuate.
Thus, the birth of “The Many Colors of Family.” Please participate! I would love tons of pictures to fill this site up with happiness, richness of experience, love, and most importantly, your stories – to show the world that interracial and multicultural families are normal. We don’t need people like Keith Bardwell protecting us from ourselves. We need to protect ourselves from him.
Submit your story and photograph today. Share your story with the world.
*refusing to marry someone based solely on the color of their skin (or their biological sex) strikes me as anti-peace. But maybe that’s just me.
