tallahassee child photographer | school days

In case you weren’t aware, let’s bring you up to speed! Matthew is my eldest – he is 3.5 and looks like a 5 year old – he’s very tall for his age. He’s also got a speech delay, and when we lived in Oakland we received services from the local school district – he went to an elementary school twice a week for 45 minutes each time to get speech therapy one on one with a therapist.

We recently had him tested here by the Leon County School district in Tallahassee and he qualified for services and so is now going to a pre-k program at the local elementary school – 5 days a week, 8:30AM-2:50PM. We got him a backpack, lunchbox, and blanket for naps. My little boy is growing up!

Today was his first day! I cried only a little. He was a little shy at first – there’s a staging area for before the first bell (!!) rings – in the music room they play some cartoons for the K and Pre-K kids. He was a little shy at first, but then warmed up. The 5th grade teacher today was on duty and when she found out Matthew’s first day was today she talked with him and walked him over to her chair and the two of them sat there and watched Curious George together. Rather – he held her hand, and as she started to sit in her chair, climbed right into her lap. Flirt.

As they walked down the hall to the classroom, he was lagging behind a bit. I told him, “Matthew, catch up to your teacher!” and he snapped at me, “No, Mama!” and wagged a finger at me and ran ahead, ignoring me. Punk.

Matthew’s rolling his eyes at me. Josh is being silly.

C'mon Mama, keep up!
